PERE UBU, Roi de l' Avant-garage

Pere Ubu, Roi de l' avant-garage, Cleveland's gift to the world... There is NOTHING like Pere Ubu in the incarnation of David Thomas. Everything about him defies pigeonholes. This spring in London he appeared with a new work, if work is what he does. One writer looked up Pere Ubu on the net and discovered the name comes from a play by Jarry in 1895. So the critic, in his infinitely superior snob wisdom declared "It's not as good as the original !" How could he know ? It wasn't the kind of thing you do authentic performances of. But maybe that writer is more surreal than he knows since he could review something he neither saw nor knew beans about. The things about absurdist dada avant garde is that fakers cannot understand !
